Sancerre is a hilltop town in France’s upper Loire wine region that also lends its name to this racy, dry white Sauvignon Blanc. Michel Redde and his son, Thierry, are the fifth and sixth generations of a family which has been grower-producers in this area of the Loire Valley since early last century. The estate's vineyards are situated in the heart of the appellation on the crest of a hillside overlooking the Loire River, exposed directly to the south.
In making this 100% Sauvignon Blanc, a gentle pressing of the fruit is followed by a temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and fruit flavors. The wine is given depth and complexity through contact with the lees until bottling takes place. This wine has an aromatic herb and spice fragrance reflected on the palate with bracing, crisp white fruit flavors supported by a nervy acidity and flinty minerality – classic Sancerre!
With its citrusy, herbal flavors and relatively high acidity, Sauvignon Blanc in general pairs especially well with goat’s milk cheeses, shellfish and salads. It is also perfectly delicious on it’s own on a warm day!
