With more than 30 years of experience, Dan Lee and the Morgan label have been synonymous with artisan, vineyard-centric wines from the Santa Lucia Highlands and Monterey. The Double L Vineyard’s location in the northern end of the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA is widely regarded as one of the best spots for growing world-class Pinot Noir in California. Planted on east facing terraces overlooking the Salinas River Valley, the north-south vineyard row orientation provides optimum sun exposure and access to the strong afternoon breezes. The winds moderate the afternoon temperature, thickening the grape skins and concentrating flavors. The vineyard has been Certified Organic since 2002, making it the first SLH vineyard to be achieve both organic and sustainable certifications.
Winemaker Gianni Abate draws from the finest vineyards of the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation, including Morgan’s own organically farmed “Double L” estate. This Pinot Noir spends approximately 10 months aging in French oak Burgundy barrels (44% new) and displays aromas of dried cherry, cola, spice and smoke. On the palate, flavors of cranberry and pomegranate are complemented by notes of almond skin and minerals. Beautifully poised fruit/acid balance make this wine incredibly food-versatile.
