Raymond T. Duncan first visited the Napa Valley in the late 1960s and was taken by the region’s rugged beauty. He began to buy land in both Napa and Alexander Valleys with the goal of planting vineyards; but with his home in Colorado and no viticulture expertise of his own, Ray approached Justin Meyer, and asked him to plant and manage the vineyards. Justin agreed with one condition: in addition to managing the vineyards, he wanted to create a winery that would forever raise the standards of California wine. The year was 1972, and Silver Oak Cellars began.

Rather than producing six or seven varietals, they devoted all their resources to producing a single wine - Cabernet Sauvignon! They decided their wine would be a new style of Cab, rich and complex, deliciously drinkable from the day it was released, yet worthy of cellaring for years to come. The Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is complex and layered expression of California Cabernet with a dark garnet color that is bursting with fruit even as it is poured. On the palate, it has an extraordinarily rich attack, a satin texture and an exuberant expression of fruit on the mid-palate that comes from picking grapes at the peak of their ripeness. Given proper cellaring, this wine should give drinking pleasure for 10-15 years.
