Morgan Chardonnay Double L Vineyard, Santa Lucia Highlands, CA

With more than 30 years of experience, Dan Lee and the Morgan label have been synonymous with artisan, vineyard-centric wines from the Santa Lucia Highlands and Monterey. The Double L Vineyard’s location in the northern end of the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA is widely regarded as one of the best spots for growing world-class Pinot Noir in California. Planted on east facing terraces overlooking the Salinas River Valley, the north-south vineyard row orientation provides optimum sun exposure and access to the strong afternoon breezes. The winds moderate the afternoon temperature, thickening the grape skins and concentrating flavors. The vineyard has been Certified Organic since 2002, making it the first SLH vineyard to be achieve both organic and sustainable certifications.

The grapes were picked when the flavor and acid balance was optimal. Hand sorted grapes were gently pressed as whole clusters to yield the highest quality juice. The juice was fermented in French oak - 30% new and a combination of one & two year old barrels. Partial malolactic fermentation and lees stirring was conducted to obtain the trademark “Morgan Balance”: creaminess with bright tropical fruit and minerality. 

Morgan’s Double L Chardonnay presents aromas of creme brulee, papaya and walnut backed by the sweet spice of lightly toasted oak. Grapefruit and tangerine flavors are complemented by a touch of creaminess and elegant, bright acidity. A great food wine, the Double L Chardonnay will pair wonderfully with seafood and poultry dishes, as well as a buttery steak.
