Dr. Tony Truchard's persistence, pioneering spirit and family farming legacy led him to become one of the pioneers of California's Carneros AVA. He discovered that the diverse soils and cool climate of Carneros made for grapes of extraordinary quality and on the first 20 acres he purchased planted Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Riesling grapes. Since 1973 the Truchard estate has grown to over 400 contiguous acres on which the family grows Chardonnay, Roussanne, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Merlot, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Tempranillo, Malbec and Petit Verdot.
The Truchard Pinot Noir is aged for 10 months in French oak (35% new) and bottled in August. This wine displays rich aromas of ripe plum, rhubarb, and wild strawberry while on the palate, bright flavors of cherry, pomegranate, cranberry and sweet vanilla are accompanied by a firm acidity and suppled tannins followed by a lingering finish of spice and red fruit. It is ready for immediate drinking, but will evolve over the next 10-12 years.
